Just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio
On Aug. 24, 2007, we visited the Newport Aquarium located just across from Cincinnati, OH. In many ways, it was even better than the Georgia Aquarium. It seemed like there were more exhibits and more types of fish. Maybe the main thing missing from the Georgia Aquarium that the Newport Aquarium had was angelfish. They had the best and biggest Altum angels I've ever seen. The pictures don't do them justice -- these things were the size of saucers with huge fins. Also, the tunnel system here was very nice with several tunnels to walk through. There was also a variety of different habitats with other animals.
We drove to Cincinnati for a day trip since it is only about 3.5 hours away. However, on way there, I realized I forgot my CAMERA!!!! We were too far from home so we decided to buy a camera. I wanted one that would take better fish pictures anyway and I was considering a digital SLR and thought that this would be as good an excuse as any to finally buy one. Once I looked at them in the store, I realized that if I bought something that complicated there would be no way I could learn to use it and actually get any good pictures in the same day. So, instead I bought a Canon PowerShot S5 IS, which was about the most expensive non-SLR camera they had. It has turned out to be a really good fish camera for the price. In this gallery, keep in mind that it still was the first time I used this camera, so I was still learning. I only kept the best pictures as always.

Great place, but you can't go there!
The Piranha Realm was a public aquarium in Hazelwood, MO, but it is currently shut down. They had 12 - 4000 gallon tanks with some great fish. Click here to see the photo gallery.
